Why You Should Use Medical Grade Skincare Products

Don’t get us wrong, we love Sephora! But at Images Med Spa in Mokena, we wouldn’t recommend going to any cosmetic stores, drug stores or department stores for your skincare products. Everyone wants to have amazing skin like our favorite celebs do. What we don’t know is that celebrities often take their skin care routine to the next level by getting facial treatments and buying some of the best medical grade products suggested for their skin by a professional. Everyone has different skin and even if your favorite celebrity says they use a specific production for their oily skin doesn’t mean it’ll work for you.

Everyone loves luxury brands and we often buy products based on the name alone. So if you decide to go to one of these stores, make sure you look closely at all the ingredients. Properly formulated products will have active ingredients along with other ingredients that are recognizable and aren’t impossible to pronounce. Some great ingredients to look out for are hyaluronic acid, retinol, hydroquinone, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, alpha hydroxy acid and beta hydroxy acid (also known as AHAs/BHAs). If they don’t include any active ingredients it might be made up of aqua or glycerin. A rule of thumb is less is usually more. If there are a ton of ingredient names you can’t recognize or pronounce, chances are it’s not the best product in the world.

Many drugstores and department store skincare brands may claim that their products are tested, safe and effective but the reality is that the sources and studies they base these claims off of are usually biased or unreliable. At Images Med Spa in Mokena we only sell medical grade products formulated with quality ingredients and have been thoroughly tested. These products have also been tested by both research and clinical doctors as well as other skincare professionals and can only be suggested by a medical professional. We want to dive deeper about those key products everyone hears about and why they are not as beneficial bought from drug stores, cosmetic and department stores.

I am sure you have all heard of Retin-A products. It has many benefits and one of the main ones is fighting signs of age. These products bought from a drugstore tend to still range around $40 which leads you to believe that may still work better than the products that are $10. The problem with these products sold in stores is that the ingredient retinol usually is a lot less potent. Retin-A has been proven to clear acne and fine lines. The problem with Retinol is that it doesn’t even do half the job that Retin-A and described as watered down. Oftentimes people are willing to spend the money when it comes to skin-care but don’t bother to go to a medical professional. At Images Med Spa in Mokena we can find exactly what you need for your skin type. Our medical professionals know the anatomy of the face and skin. They also have all of the knowledge on the products we sell so it’s not a suggestion based on only experience or research its suggestions based on thorough training they’ve gone through.

We swear by Vitamin C creams and serums they have all the benefits when it comes to glowy skin. Vitamin C products boost collagen which is the secret to elastic, youthful looking skin. The products when bought in store can be such a waste of your money. Studies show that these products once opened are oxidized which makes them ineffective. The stable and effective products should be suggested by a professional.

Products suggested by a professional usually reflect on the professional whereas products suggested from your favorite celebrities on youtube can not be blamed because they usually end by saying “this is what worked for me”. If you’re trying to treat something more serious like rosacea, eczema, sun spots or acne and you go to Sephora for these you’re buying a product for it’s packaging and beautiful aromas. These issues should be seeked out by a medical professional and because there will be particular instructions and always a follow-up. Anyone recommending products to you in the store is giving everyone the same spiel on the pros to the products they sell in store based on what the brand had to say about their own products.

It’s common that anything you buy from Sephora will not be under $50. At Images Med Spa in Mokena we can find products that’ll work for you and won’t break the bank. Sephora sells all luxury brands and that’s another reason you can expect to spend big on your next visit to the store. Employees at Sephora are always looking to make sales and so its more about the commission than the reflection on how reliable the product was that they sold to you. How often do you go to Sephora to buy one thing and then end up buying 5 more. Skincare is actually one of the top three products sold. Insiders at Sephora always say buying SPF at Sephora is not worth it. They are all over priced and most of them work at the same level protecting you from the sun.

Not that we don’t love these stores! But as skin experts we know the better option to put your money when investing in skin-care. We know how much it would suck to drop your money on a product that only makes your skin concerns worse. It’s impossible to know the safety of all the ingredients in a product. Some of these products from the store are too harsh and may contain parabens which will create a negative effect on the skin. The products we recommend to our patients are all effective and tested by doctors. We love to see our patients pleased with how their skin looks after using the products we suggested to them. If you are ready to take your skincare routine to the next level come to Images Med Spa in Mokena. Our providers would love to analyze your skin and set you up on track for perfect skin!

We can’t get enough of these products at Images Med Spa in Mokena! If you have questions and concerns come have a cup of coffee with us! We’ll discuss all our other options with you and talk through your wants, needs, dreams, and overall skincare and lifestyle.
